Good morning! I hope your week has been a pleasant one! This week, has seemed like quite a long one. From dealing with the torrential rains and storms earlier in the week, to an unexpected snafu with my car yesterday, I’m looking forward to relaxing over the weekend and taking some time to catch up on reading and watching movies! That said, I’m very much looking towards the return of the warmer temperatures. Along with the inclement weather, the temperatures have been lingering on the upper 50’s to the 60’s; reminiscent of that of March (according to the local meteorologists!), so the anticipated temperatures in the 80’s this upcoming weekend, leads me to one of my favorite summer treats – ice cream!
Recently while shopping in my local grocery store, as well as scoping out some of my emails and favorite brands on social media (i.e. Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter), I’ve started to see the introduction of numerous unique ice cream and frozen dessert options! They’ve been so extraordinary in my opinion, I just had to share them (though you may already be familiar with them). Plus, for those of you who may be lactose intolerant, vegetarian, vegan, or are looking to reduce your dairy intake, there are also non-dairy options appearing in store freezers, as well, which I will also share and detail below.
Without further adieu, here are some new frozen dessert options to enjoy this summer and beyond:
EDY’s Frozen Custard:
Depending on where you live, you may or may not be familiar with the Edy’s brand (in some areas within the U.S., I believe it is called Dreyers). The brand Edy’s (or Dreyers) features an array of different flavors of both ice cream and frozen yogurt and now, their newest offerings include a line of Frozen Custard! If you’re unfamiliar with what frozen custard actually is, according to Edy’s official website, it is referred to as similar to ice cream, but richer and extra thick and creamy, with wholesome ingredients! The new Frozen Custard line is available in an array of flavors, which includes:
- Chocolate Malt
- Mint Cookies ‘n Cream
- Old Fashioned Vanilla
- Peanut Butter Pie
- Salted Caramel Pretzel
Turkey Hill Gelato:
For as long as I can remember, the brand, Turkey Hill has always been a staple in my family/household. When I was a child, I can fondly recall eating bowls and bowls of Turkey Hill’s Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup and Fudge Ripple ice creams! To me, Turkey Hill has always been a high-quality brand producing ice creams and frozen yogurts that are comparable to those found in ice cream shops! Nonetheless, while it may be a local/regional brand (I’m not exactly certain), if you are able to purchase it, I highly recommend it and with the introduction of their new Gelato line, it is even more enticing! Though I’ve never actually tried gelato before, myself, seeing that Turkey Hill is now offering it, my interest is piqued.
Detailed on the official Turkey HIll website, their new line is Gelato is inspired by “Italian gelato recipes, made with fresh milk, cream and real sugar.” In comparison to traditional ice cream, it is denser, with less air whipped into the mix, creating a light and airy experience, packed with rich flavors. Their Gelato line has expanded, now offering up to 8 flavors:
- Chocolate Chocolate Chip
- Purely Vanilla
- Chocolate Peanut Butter
- Mint Chocolate Chip
- Sea Salted Caramel
- Coffee Chip
- Peach Mango
Along with my love of Turkey Hill’s packaged ice creams and frozen yogurts, is Baskin Robbins, infamous for their “31 flavors.” Since childhood, I’ve been visiting Baskin Robbins for their consistently changing flavors (some of their classics flavors I’m fond of, as well) and love to learn of their flavors of the month. However, after seeing June’s current flavor of the month, I simply had to write about it. It is quite possibly, the most unique of them all, combining two of my favorite flavors – coffee and ice cream! If you haven’t already heard, June’s flavor of the month is… “Dunkin’ Donuts Coffee ‘n Donut Ice Cream!”
This flavor is affectionately described on the official Baskin Robbins website as, “Dunkin’ Donuts-flavored ice cream, with donut pieces and a chocolate-flavored icing ribbon, dunked within Dunkin’ Donuts coffee ice cream!” In one word, this flavor can be described as, “WOW!” Not having tried it yet, I can only imagine how incredible it must taste. If you’ve had the opportunity to try it, I’d love to hear about it!
GIANT Grocery Store’s Limoncello Chiffon Ice Cream:
One of my favorite local grocery store’s, Giant, recently introduced a Limoncello-inspired line of products, which includes this flavor of ice cream – Limoncello Chiffon. Perhaps you’re familiar with Giant, but if you’re not, they are noted for having excellent store-brand items (at least in my opinion!), so I’m always intrigued and curious about the new store-brand products they introduce. This particular ice cream flavor, is described as “Lemon ice-cream with chunks of cheesecake swirled with a sweet graham cracker crust!” As a big fan of ice cream AND cheesecake, to me, this sounds like the ideal treat!
I’ve begun to notice a Gelato theme this season, so it’s only fitting one of my other favorite ice cream brands, Breyers, has also recently introduced a Gelato Indulgence line to their already expansive product offerings! The Gelato flavors offered by Breyers are unique and filled with various “mix-ins” and includes:
- Vanilla Caramel
- Raspberry Cheesecake
- Triple Chocolate
- Strawberry Truffle
- Mint Chocolate
- Chocolate Caramel
The next several product line’s are for those looking for a non-dairy frozen dessert alternative, without sacrificing on flavor and texture. Based on what I’ve seen and read about the following products, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed:
Amy’s Non-Dairy Frozen Desserts:
Perhaps you’re already familiar and accustomed to purchasing Amy’s brand of products, given their extensive offerings of frozen meals, snacks and other options for those who are vegetarian, vegan, or simply looking for a meat-free product. Their foods are made with the highest quality ingredients and recently introduced a frozen dessert line, for those who are looking for a product similar to ice cream, without the addition of dairy. All of the following are made with coconut milk:
- Mocha Chocolate Chip
- Mint Chocolate Chip
So Delicious Cashew Milk Frozen Desserts:
A couple weeks ago, I mentioned my newfound fondness for cashew milk and recently, one of my favorite brands, So Delicious proudly introduced their dairy-free Frozen Dessert line made with cashew milk! Already offering frozen desserts in almond and coconut varieties, the introduction of the cashew milk line, is bound to make those opting for dairy-free alternatives cheer with delight! Offered in the following flavors, the taste is apt to comparable to those of a dairy variety:
- Creamy Cashew
- Dark Chocolate Truffle
- Salted Caramel Cluster
Blue Bunny Dairy-Free Desserts:
Another one of my favorite ice cream/frozen yogurt brands is Blue Bunny! Up until several years ago, I hadn’t heard of Blue Bunny, but suddenly noticed it appearing in my local grocery stores. With their supremely unique varieties and options, plus their generosity of frequently providing coupons on their official website, I was overjoyed to recently learn of their expansion into the dairy-free world! Made with almond milk, their dairy-free dessert line will be appearing in store freezers soon, if it’s not already there, in the following flavors:
- Mocha Fudge
- Mint Chocolate Chip
